PURR Principles
These principles are reflections of PURR community’s ethos and culture, giving members and guests guidelines to better integrate and assist in the growth of the PURR experience. Some of these principles are borrowed from Burning Man Principles and some are unique to PURR. These principles can be changed and deleted, and new ones added to reflect PURR's growth and evolution through time.
1.
Participation
Adopted from Burning Man, we believe that transformative change, whether in the individual or in society, can occur only through the medium of deeply personal participation. We achieve being through doing. Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play. We make the world real through actions that open the heart.
2.
Co-Creation & Communal Effort
Expressions, ideas, music, art, gatherings do not exist by themselves. They are shared experiences. We believe in the value of co-creation and communal effort which are essential not only in fostering innovation and generating diverse perspectives, but it also acknowledge the the existence of fellow creators and collaborators.
3.
Professionalism
We treat PURR as a professional space and hold a respectable standard of accountability, integrity, and competence in our creative and collaborative endeavors. We also recognize that our space is communal which requires a discernable separation between the personal vs a collective experience. We strive to keep PURR as apolitical, secular, and free of personal drama as best we can.
4.
Enjoyment
PURR is a space primarily for celebration and enjoyment. We support projects and activities that bring joy to the community. While projects created and events hosted at PURR may touch on themes of grief, contemplation, rebellion, etc, they should refocus back on joy. If you are embarking on a joyless endeavor, PURR is not a place for you.
5.
Service
Be of service. How are you of service to the community, property, other people, and self? You can define the “service” no matter how big or small. Being of service provides connections that are meaningful and of value to others and self and thus creates stronger communities. Being of service correlates to Burning Man principle of "gifting"..
6.
Kindness
As Waymond Wang says in the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, “please be kind.” In general, be kind when dealing with people, animals and things at PURR. You can be kind with gifts, words, or giving other people space and time. We support projects and activities that come from kindness of the heart for others, community, nature, and equally important, self.
7.
Respect
Be respectful of other people’s personal boundaries, property, land, animals and nature. This includes Leave No Trace as it applies to respect for the property, land and nature in general.
8.
Civic Responsibility
We value civil society. Community members who organize events should assume responsibility for public welfare and endeavor to communicate civic responsibilities to participants. They must also assume responsibility for conducting events in accordance with local, state and federal laws.
9.
Parity
All expressions, talents, gifts (crafting, construction, music, art, food, bodywork, energy work, technology, etc.) are equal within the confine of PURR. All are needed equally for our shared experience to manifest.
10.
Accessibility
We seek to make PURR accessible as possible for those who seek to share our experience, making sure to minimize barrier to entry without compromising safety.
