Happy New Year!
The holiday season is over, and I'm back at constructing the PURRADOME. With the designing and testing of the greenhouse panels done, I'm onto mass producing them.
This involves breaking up of wood pallets, identifying boards of quality, cleaning them up, cutting them to size, framing, painting and finally wrapping the frames with greenhouse films.
Most of the pallets that I collected are pretty beat up, weather worn and dirty. So it's a treat to discover quality wood underneath, after whittling and sanding down the surface. What surprise me most is, on multiple occasions, I discovered some nice hardwood that are mixed in with cheaper soft wood. I enjoyed the scavenging and processing of the pallets a lot, as it's like a treasure hunt. I'm also saving a tree by upcycling wood, instead of buying fresh ones from lumber yard.
To set up a system that allows me to quickly process the wood pallets into frames, I created angle cutting jigs, converted a skilsaw into a table saw, and added a planer to my tool collection.
The set up definitely helps to speed things up, but I would enjoy the process even more if there are people around to partake in the fun. I miss work parties...well...any kind of parties actually.
Everything is going according to plan so far.... except for a couple of bumps along the way, or more accurately, holes in hot tub, one that is a slow leak and one that is too large to patch. Instead of buying a new tub, I have decided to cut it up and line the inside with wood and foam (in place of air) as support. That will be for the next write up. Stay tune!
