PURR Monthly News Updates (April, 2021)

As camping season is here and COVID vaccines are widely available, PURR social club is starting to open in accordance with Washington State COVID guidelines.

Events & Activities

We are happy to announce club events scheduled for spring and summer. PURR organized events are free for members to attend and campsites are 50% discounted from regular day rates during Member’s Week.

Check out the Events & Activities page for schedules and RSVP now.

Member’s Week

It’s like a mini burn every month. We reserve the campground and facility for members and their guests as we celebrate the PURR Principles, modified from BM principles of inclusion, self expression, participation, co-creation, gifting, etc. Come and bring your art, music, projects, ideas, creativity to work on by yourself or collaborate in groups. Be weird, be creative, be productive, be lazy, be yourself in a safe supported space without judgement.

If you have offerings of workshops, food, performances, art, movie screenings, DJ sets for a particular member’s week, let me know and I’ll put it on the schedule.

The PURR Stop - a Pre-Burning Man party

Whether you are going to the (rogue) burn or not this year, there is still the pre party @ PURR! Make sure to put this on your schedule as you do not want to miss this local burning man event.

If you are interested in helping with organizing, decor, sound, music, let me know.

PURR Projects Updates

PURRADOME - I was talking to one of our member’s kids, and he remarked “you are not using a blueprint huh.” Smart kid, and yes I am creating as I go along. There are no blueprints from the manufacturer. As such, it has been slow going due to feature creep (addition of new functionalities) but I am making some major progress recently, with the deck and side panels. Next step is to take down the dome from indoor and reassemble onto the deck outside.

Panhandle Bandshell Stage - The Seattle Park Services came through and will deliver the stage to PURR at the end of April. We still have to modify it to fit into our space, but the future of outdoor performances at PURR is looking up.

Gate of Interdimensional Transit - Planning to start this in June

Check out our project page at https://www.prancingunicorn.org/projects for updates and sign up to help on various projects.

New Membership Guidelines

Congratulations existing PURR club members! You have made it past the initial membership drive. You are the og explorers, the leaders, the ones that make the first grooves in the creek that turns into a river. As original members that have made it this far you have been granted the power to sponsor new members.

Due to limited camping spaces and clubhouse capacity, plus our intention of providing members with the best services and experience, we have put a cap on memberships at 250. We are currently at 35 members.

We now have a good core to raise the bar a bit and the requirements to join. Moving forward, memberships are by invitation only. To become a member, you need to be sponsored by an existing member, as well as donate a piece of art or performance of your creation to the club, or volunteer on a PURR project, because participation is a big part of our community. Oh and pay your season or annual dues.

However, our community is still inclusive as it is made up of more than just club members, and our events and activities can still include non members and the general public.

Space Reservation Guidelines

As our community grows, there has been a lot of inquiry from members and the general public on how to host events and activities at PURR. I have drafted up guidelines (with rental rates) for reserving lodge spaces and campsites for club activities and private events. Read up on the latest draft at www.prancingunicorn.org/reservationguidelines
